Doinstory: when France discovered women’s football
The 31M viewers of all the group matches of this World Cup prove to us that a new wind is now touching women’s football. Doinsport invites you to come back to this phenomenon.
In the midst of the Football World Cup, in our territory, it is logically the entire French nation that is pushing behind its team. But we’re talking about women’s football here, and this is the first time that such a craze has taken place. The idols of young people are no longer Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappé or Paul Pogba. They are Eugénie Le Sommer, Wendy Renard or even Delphine Cascarino. We wanted to go back to the founding period of this rediscovered passion by briefly recalling the place of the women’s round ball in France.
AIMÉ JACQUET: “WOMEN IS THE FUTURE OF FOOTBALL”
Whether it is futsal, 5-a-side football, 11 against 11 football, whether in the streets, under bridges, in playgrounds or even on a game console: France lives for the round ball.
If their male counterparts brought the “Cup home” for the second time on July 15, 2018, our women also want to enter the Tricolor Sports Hall through the main door. Aimé Jacquet, the Blues coach in 98 said: “Women are the future of football”. And once again, he was right.
It was in the early 2000s that Jean-Michel Aulas, President of Olympique Lyonnais, put women in the spotlight for the first time. Since then, the women of the Rhone club have been shaping the most beautiful prize list in the country (and certainly also in Europe) with:
- 13 French Championships
- 8 French Cup
- 6 Champions Leagues
- 1 Mobcast Cup
So it’s not a surprise: the 2019 World Cup final will be played in Lyon. Moreover the Bleues are made up mostly of Lyonnaises. The clear course of our players in this World Cup (1st in their group after beating South Korea, Norway and Nigeria) is a reflection of this dazzling development.
DOINSPORT AND WOMEN
Team France captain Amandine Henry said she was “pleasantly surprised to see such enthusiasm”. At Doinsport, we want to ensure that the number 6 of Les Bleues is used to this kind of event, which is why we offer women:
